We just published a paper in the journal Optics Letters. The work described in this paper, is in collaboration with Dr. Julio Ramirez-San-Juan from INAOE (Puebla, Mexico). Julio had a sabbatical stay with us during the 2012-13 year, which ended up being quite productive and always interesting. This paper is one of two publications (with more to come, we hope!) resulting from our collaborative work. It describes an elegant model that describes derivation of a simple correction factor (Eq. 19 in the paper) for speckle contrast measurements of tissue blood flow. The model takes into account the temporal integration of a fluctuating speckle pattern (since cameras have finite shutter times) and the spatial integration of the same pattern (since camera pixels are finite in size). It is an extension of the excellent work done by Andy Dunn’s group at UT-Austin involving multi-exposure speckle imaging.
