MTI lab posters to be presented at Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program symposium on Saturday, May 17th

On Saturday, May 17th, the UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Symposium will be held at the UCI Student Center.

The MTI lab has five posters that will be presented by outstanding undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students, from 1:30-2:50 PM in the UCI Student Center, Pacific Ballroom C&D.

1) Akshay Paul and Edmund Florendo’: Endoscopic Laser Speckle Imaging System (ELSI)

2) Josh Yakel: Alma Intense Pulsed-Light Source and Persistent Vascular Shutdown

3) Patrick Lo: High-Resolution, Depth-Resolved Imaging of Microglia and Microvasculature in Mouse Brain using Optical Histology

4) Michael Marks: HiLo Microscopy

5) Ted Chang and Kent Mayzel: Laser Speckle Imaging Instrument for Assessment of Pulpal Status in Teeth

New award from UCI Institute for Clinical & Translational Science

We were awarded a one-year grant from the NIH-funded UCI Institute for Clinical & Translational Science to develop and test a new functional optical endoscope design.  This project is in collaboration with Dr. Brian Smith, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCI.  This work will support the research efforts of BME undergraduates Akshay Paul and Edmund Florendo and Junior Specialist Tram Pham.  Congratulations to everyone!

ASLMS 2014 Research Grant awards announced

I’m happy to announce that Dr. Sean White was awarded a one-year, $30,610 research grant from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.  Dr. White will work on development of a blood-flow imaging technology for use during a combined drug-/light-based treatment of port-wine stain birthmarks.  Congratulations Sean!
