New research award from the UCI School of Medicine

We were awarded a one-year grant from the UCI School of Medicine to develop and test a new functional optical imaging device for use in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  This project is in collaboration with Dr. Omid Fathi, a UCI Pediatric Research Fellow.  Congratulations Ryan!

New award from UCI Institute for Clinical & Translational Science

We were awarded a one-year grant from the NIH-funded UCI Institute for Clinical & Translational Science to develop and test a new functional optical endoscope design.  This project is in collaboration with Dr. Brian Smith, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCI.  This work will support the research efforts of BME undergraduates Akshay Paul and Edmund Florendo and Junior Specialist Tram Pham.  Congratulations to everyone!

ASLMS 2014 Research Grant awards announced

I’m happy to announce that Dr. Sean White was awarded a one-year, $30,610 research grant from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.  Dr. White will work on development of a blood-flow imaging technology for use during a combined drug-/light-based treatment of port-wine stain birthmarks.  Congratulations Sean!

ASLMS student research grant award recipients announced

The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) announced the awardees for their 2014 Student Research Grants.  Four awards were given, and I am happy to report that both Ryan Farraro and Caitlin Regan were two of the winners.  During the one-year funding period, Ryan will develop a new handheld device designed to image blood flow in premature infants, and Caitlin will develop a device designed to assess the presence of blood flow in teeth.  Congratulations Ryan and Caitlin!
