Caitlin Regan, a PhD student in the MTI lab, is first author on “Photothermal Laser Speckle Imaging”, a paper that was accepted on 7 Jul 2014 for publication in Optics Letters.  The work was in collaboration with Dr. Julio Ramirez-San-Juan, our outstanding colleague and former MTI lab member, who is at Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE) in Puebla, Mexico.  This is Caitlin’s first (of many) peer-reviewed publications as first author.  Congratulations Caitlin!

Akshay Paul and Patrick Lo, both undergraduate students majoring in Biomedical Engineering, also received awards from the Summer Undergraduate Research Program sponsored by the UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.  Akshay’s project involves design and validation of a new functional endoscope (in collaboration with Dr. Brian Smith, a UCI surgeon), and Patrick’s project involves application of chemical-based methods to study cerebral microbleeds (in collaboration with Drs. Mark Fisher and David Cribbs’s neurobiology labs).  Congratulations to both Akshay and Patrick!

Thai Nguyen, a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Biomedical Engineering, was awarded a Summer Undergraduate Research Program sponsored jointly by the Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology and the UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.  The 10-week project involves design of a low-cost optical imaging device for educational purposes.  Congratulations Thai!
