MTI lab researchers have articles featured on the covers of the August (Vol. 47, Issue 6) and September (Vol. 47, Issue 7) issues of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine. In the article in Issue 6, Dr. Bruce Yang is lead author on his outstanding work involving integration of laser speckle imaging to monitor patients with capillary malformations known as port-wine stain birthmarks. The article in Issue 7 involves work in collaboration with Dr. Tania Betancourt’s group at Texas State University, on the development and evaluation of nanoparticles that will emit fluorescent light only when they are “activated” by certain enzymes which tend to be overabundant in cancerous regions.
